Soyaworld Launches Program To Certify Use Of Non-Genetically Modified Soy In So Good Soy Beverage

Certified Identity Preservation Program Controls Seed Selection, Planting, Harvesting, Transportation, Processing

October 15, 1999 -Vancouver, BC - Soyaworld Inc., Canada's leading soy beverage company, announced the launch of its new program "Identity Preservation" which certifies that no genetically modified (GM) soybeans are used in the manufacture of So Good, Canada's number one selling soy beverage.

The program, which went into effect in September, enables Soyaworld to deliver a "certified" non-GM product by controlling each step of the manufacture process, from seed selection to planting, harvesting, transportation and processing. There will be no change in the flavour or nutritional profile of the best-selling soy beverage.

Third-Party Monitoring Ensures Quality

Soyaworld's "Identity Preservation" program developed with a major supplier, sets standards for quality and efficacy by ensuring independent third-party monitoring. This third-party agent is responsible for inspection, testing and verification during seed selection, planting, harvesting, transportation, storage, distribution and processing of the soy.

With a 35 per cent market share, sales for So Good topped $11 million for the year ending September 11, 1999*. In the past year, Canadians consumed almost 15 million litres of soy beverages.
