Vancouver, BC - So Good, Canada's No. 1 selling soy beverage announced its partnership with the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Canada's Health Check™ food information program. So Good, the first soy beverage in Canada to feature the Health Check logo will display an eye-catching red check symbol on the front panel of all varieties (original, fat-free, vanilla, strawberry and chocolate) beginning this month. In addition, a side-panel explanation will cite So Good as "an excellent source of calcium," and "as a nutritionally adequate alternative to milk."
"The Health Check program is based on Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating and is designed to help people make good overall nutrition choices," said Carol Dombrow Registered Dietitian for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. "Calcium is an essential nutrient for healthy eating and we are pleased to recognize So Good as an excellent source of calcium, and an alternative choice to milk." "So Good has become the No.1 selling soy beverage because it is a good tasting way for Canadians to enjoy the many healthful benefits of soy protein," said Mr. Maheb Nathoo, president and CEO of SoyaWorld, Inc., the Vancouver-based company that manufactures and markets So Good. "Now, participation in Health Check will give consumers the added confidence in selecting So Good as a nutritional alternative to milk."
So Good Health Check
So Good's Health Check announcement follows on the heels of the October 1999, U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for a soy protein health claim. Although not permitted in Canada, the U.S. health claim, now used by soy food manufacturers in the United States in labeling and advertising, confirms the association between consumption of soy protein and the reduced risk of coronary heart disease. With a 38 per cent market share, sales for So Good topped $14 million over the past 52 weeks. For the same time period, Canadians consumed over 17 million litres of soy beverages. So Good is a good tasting and nutritious alternative to milk. Fortified with 14 essential vitamins and minerals, including 9 grams of soy protein per serving, So Good combines many of the nutritional qualities and conveniences of milk with all of the health benefits of soy protein. So Good is low in saturated fat, is cholesterol and lactose-free, and is made from certified non-genetically modified soy by `Identity Preservation'. SoyaWorld Inc. is jointly owned by Dairyworld Foods of Vancouver, one of Canada's leading dairies, and Sunrise Soya Foods, Canada's largest tofu company. Formed in 1996, SoyaWorld is Canada's largest manufacturer and marketer of dairy-free beverages, with production facilities in Vancouver, British Columbia as well as Brampton and Ottawa, Ontario.
